Raw London has won the public vote for the 2nd year in a row, The Lovie Awards confirmed this morning. The project, #EscapeRobot produced for War Child UK, was voted People’s Lovie in the Short Form Branded Content category. It was also awarded Silver by the judges as WeTransfer’s The Bunt Machine and Volkswagen’s Kid’s Dreams took Gold.
As the only non-profit shortlisted in the category, the project is also included in the inaugural Lovie for Good showcase. Produced in partnership with WP Engine, the programme features Lovie-recognised projects built to change Europe. Websites, Advertising, editorial works and campaigns in this showcase focus on a wide variety of social issues: the Syrian refugee crisis, climate change, human trafficking—and well beyond. You can check it out here.
Ryan Wilkins, Founder & CEO of Raw London, said; “It’s a huge honour to see our work awarded in the Lovie’s for a second year running – especially up against such tough competition from corporate entries. It’s also fantastic to have won the People’s Choice award again; great to know that the causes that we represent resonate with the wider public. I know that this will mean a lot to War Child too.”
*Update, Friday 16 November 2018: Thomas Paul Martin, Film Director at Raw London, accepted the award on behalf of the team on Thursday 15 November at BFI Southbank. In his ‘7 Words of Lovie’ speech, Thomas thanked the voting public for ‘helping us break through’, referring to the campaign’s strap line and objective to break through the armour that shields children from their traumatic experiences.
With nearly 1,500 entries from over 33 countries, and over 55,000 votes in the People’s Lovie Awards, The Lovies continues to be the leading and most prestigious European awards organisation honouring excellence on the Internet. Not only has the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences (IADAS) picked this work as among the very best of the European Internet, but the online public has, too.
The Lovies also honoured select Special Achievement Winners who are shaping the European Internet, including Stormzy (Lovie Person of the Year), Dr. Sue Black (Lovie Lifetime Achievement), Michael Dapaah, a.k.a. Big Shaq (Lovie Outstanding Comedic Performance), Hans Jørgen Wiberg (Lovie Emerging Entrepreneur), Alex Bertie (Lovie Creator for Change) and The Bureau Local (Lovie Be Greater with Data).
All winners will be honoured at the star-studded 8th Annual Lovie Awards, hosted by acclaimed comedian Mark Watson, on 15 November at the British Film Institute Southbank in London.
